Description
The Camalot Z4 sets a new benchmark for single-stem cams, incorporating the revolutionary RigidFlex stem design. As suggested by the name, the stem remains rigid during placement, but flexes once the climber moves past it, ensuring smooth handling and minimising walking for a reliable placement.
The Camalot Z4 was conceived after insightful discussions with top trad-climbing BD athletes Hazel Findlay, Carlo Traversi, Sam Elias, and Babsi Zangerl. This cam was born from their shared vision: to create a single-stem cam that remains rigid while held but flexes once placed. Enter the patent-pending RigidFlex stem. Thanks to the independently floating trigger wires, the Z4 does not bend under tension and while retracted, but once placed, the stem moves, ensuring a stable placement that resists walking when pulled in a specific direction. The stem on the larger sizes features dual twisted cable construction, ensuring uniform flex in all directions, while smaller sizes use single cable construction to prevent buckling when pulling hard on the trigger and to minimise the trigger profile. With a head width comparable to the old Camalot C3 design but featuring 4 lobes that are sandblasted for enhanced holding power, the Z4 not only offers an upgrade but is also available in smaller sizes, starting from #0—our smallest cam ever made—and ranging up to .75, perfect for fine-tuning the rack, whether tackling a tips crack in the desert or going light and fast in the Bugs.
