This certification confirms that the manufacturing process of the product minimises emissions and reduces pollution to the lowest possible levels. It upholds stringent standards to ensure ethical and humane working conditions for labourers. It guarantees that materials meet high safety requirements for consumer protection.

Solution Dyed

Solution dyeing involves incorporating dye into the liquid polymer before the fibre is extruded. This method offers the advantage of significantly reducing energy consumption, water usage, and CO₂ emissions.

With solution dyeing, the colour permeates the entire yarn rather than merely coating the surface, as seen in traditional dyeing techniques. A useful analogy is comparing it to a carrot, which has colour throughout, as opposed to a radish, where the colour is only present on the outer layer.

Although solution-dyed colours may not achieve the same level of intensity as those produced through conventional dyeing, they offer superior resistance to fading over time.

RCS Recycled Fabric

The fabrics and materials incorporated into these products have been officially certified as recycled under the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS). The RCS is a globally recognised, voluntary standard that adheres to the ISO definition of 'recycled'. It establishes stringent criteria for third-party verification of recycled content while upholding accountability across the entire supply chain. Sea to Summit evaluates the environmental impact of its material selections, ensuring that recycled materials are only utilised when they achieve the necessary standards of performance and durability.

Horizontal Delta Coring

This innovative design by Sea to Summit eliminates 40% of the foam within a self-inflating mat, forming Delta-shaped ‘cores’. This approach reduces overall weight and minimises packed size while incorporating foam-supported, air-filled channels that greatly improve comfort. It is lighter, more compact, and exceptionally comfortable—an all-round advantage.

XPEL Valve

The Sea to Summit XPEL Valve was the first valve specifically designed for self-inflating sleeping mats. This innovative valve seamlessly combines a one-way inflate port, a deflate port, and a fine-tune button into a single, compact unit. Its standout feature lies in its unique deflation mechanism—simply flipping the valve over initiates the deflation process.

Flipping the valve transforms the one-way inflate valve into a one-way deflate valve, preventing the mat from refilling with air while being rolled up. The XPEL valve is compatible with the nozzle of an Airstream pump (available separately), allowing users to conveniently 'top up' their self-inflating mat if needed.

ASTM F3340 R-VALUE TESTING

To ensure warmth during sleep, particularly when the ground is colder, it is crucial to understand how effectively a sleeping mat prevents heat loss to the ground. This level of resistance is measured using an R-Value. The only reliable method for determining this resistance is through a laboratory-tested R-Value.

Sea to Summit has consistently provided independently lab-tested R-Values for its sleeping mats. Since January 2020, the company has adopted the industry-standard ASTM F3340 test to determine the R-Values of its mats. Although multiple factors influence a sleeping mat’s insulating performance, the standardised ASTM R-Value test allows for a direct comparison of heat loss resistance across different brands.
